Nataļja Šapare is an addiction medicine specialist who has been working at the SIA “DETOX” clinic since 2018. She provides diagnostic assessment and pharmacological treatment for patients with psychoactive substance dependence and also provides consultations to patients’ relatives and people affected by codependency.

In her clinical work, Dr. Šapare works with different types of addiction, helping patients assess their situation and identify an appropriate treatment approach.

Nataļja Šapare specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of:

• alcohol dependence;
• opioid dependence;
• cannabis dependence;
• dependence on sedative and sleeping medications;
• cocaine dependence;
• stimulant dependence;
• tobacco dependence.

Professional Experience

In addition to her work at SIA “DETOX”, Nataļja Šapare currently also works as an addiction medicine specialist at VSIA “Ģintermuiža”, including its addiction treatment and outpatient departments.

She works within the MATF programme and cooperates with social rehabilitation programmes for people with addictions.

Nataļja Šapare has participated as a medical expert in the social project “Caur ērkšķiem uz…”, in seasons 3, 7 and 8.

• 2008–2014 — Faculty of Medicine, University of Latvia, Professional Higher Education in Medicine.
• 2014–2020 — Faculty of Continuing Education, Rīga Stradiņš University, Residency in Addiction Medicine.

Professional Development

Nataļja Šapare regularly continues her professional education and participates in professional and international conferences.

Within the Latvian Association of Addiction Medicine Specialists, she has presented on benzodiazepine detoxification with flumazenil and hallucinogen microdosing.

She regularly participates in international conferences, including “Lisbon Addictions 2024” and the “34th European Congress of Psychiatry”, as well as conferences organized by the “Governor’s Institute Addiction Medicine”.

She is currently continuing her studies in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
